Do you know why is this Maskeron so special?
The primary function of maskerons in general is draining the water from the roof of the church. Well, this one is placed outside the Franciscan Monistery in Dubrovnik, and it's one of the greatest attractions in the city. We are sure there is not a single person in Dubrovnik, local or visitor who did not attempt to climb to the top of the narrow owl maskeron and take off and put on the shirt while standing on it. It's just impossible not to see this ritual while staying in Dubrovnik.
Where are the roots of this ritual? According to the legend, it all started because of the young man who couldn't fall in love. He made a vow that he will become happy in love once he climbs to the top of the maskeron, takes off and puts on his shirt again, while standing on it . He tried and tried, and when he finally succeeded he fell in love. The ritual is kept to this day. It's not easy to preform it, but everyone wants to try it, even though they usually just embarass themselves in front of the bystanders.
